Meet #UltimaThule! After flying by the most distant object ever explored, our New Horizons spacecraft beamed back the first pictures and science data. These new images, taken from as close as 17,000 miles, revealed that this object is a “contact binary,” consisting of two connected spheres. End to end, Ultima Thule measures 19 miles in length. The team has dubbed the larger sphere “Ultima” and the smaller sphere “Thule”. The team says that the two spheres likely joined as early as 99 percent of the way back to the formation of the solar system, colliding no faster than two cars in a fender-bender. It likely formed over time as a rotating cloud of small, icy bodies started to combine. Eventually, 2 larger bodies remained and slowly spiraled closer until they touched, forming the bi-lobed object we see today. 
Studying Ultima Thule is helping us understand how planets form — both those in our own solar system and those orbiting other stars in our galaxy. Data from the New Year's Day flyby will continue to arrive over the next weeks and months, with much higher resolution images yet to come.

These new images, taken from as close as 17,000 miles, revealed that this object is a “contact binary,” consisting of two connected spheres. End to end, Ultima Thule measures 19 miles in length. The team has dubbed the larger sphere “Ultima” and the smaller sphere “Thule”. Capturado el 27 de febrero, el coma verdoso de Iwamoto y la débil cola aparecen entre un complejo de nebulosas de emisión rojizas y un cúmulo estelar abierto M36 (abajo a la derecha). La emisión rojiza es la luz del gas de hidrógeno ionizado por la radiación ultravioleta de las estrellas calientes cerca de la nube molecular gigante de la región, a unos 6.000 años luz de distancia. El brillo verdoso del cometa, a menos de 5 minutos luz de distancia, es predominantemente la emisión de moléculas de carbono diatómicas que emiten fluorescencia en la luz solar. M36, uno de los cúmulos estelares más conocidos de Auriga, también es un objeto de fondo más allá del Sistema Solar, a unos 4.000 años luz de distancia. El cometa Iwamoto pasó más cerca de la Tierra el 12 de Febrero y se dirige hacia afuera en una órbita altamente elíptica que lo llevará más allá del cinturón de Kuiper. The Kuiper Belt is a large belt of icy bodies and planetoids that orbit the Solar System beyond Neptune, extending from a distance of 30 AU to approximately 50 AU. Much like the Main Asteroid Belt, it contains many small bodies, all of which are remnants from the formation of the Solar System. The main difference is that the Kuiper Belt is much larger, being 20 times as wide and up to 200 times as massive.

The New Horizons team found that there were fewer craters on the surfaces of Pluto and Charon than expected. This finding implies that there are very few objects in the Trans-Neptunian region that measure between 91 m (300 ft) to 1.6 km (1 mile) in diameter. 
Perhaps the asteroid belt has more small bodies than the Kuiper Belt because its population experiences more collisions that break up larger objects into smaller ones. .

Kepala BMKG Stasiun Karangploso Malang, Amirudin Al Roniri mengatakan, fenomena awan tersebut biasa disebut awan lentikularis. Menurut dia, fenomena itu wajar dan lumrah. "Awan ini terjadi akibat adanya gelombang gunung atau angin lapisan atas atau di atas permukaan yang cukup kuat dari suatu sisi gunung," urainya.

Awan tersebut terbentuk karena adanya turbulensi di sisi gunung setelah membentur dinding pegunungan sehingga terjadilah fenomena tersebut. Turbulensi ini mengakibatkan awan-awan bertingkat yang berputar seperti lensa.

Seperti itulah kira-kira penjelsannya, seperti itu menakjubkan apalagi kita lihat fenomena diluar angkasa dan isi semesta ini 😉

Wahana Chang'e-4 milik China berhasil memasuki orbit bulan Rabu (12/12/2018) setelah melakukan perjalanan selama 4,5 hari.

Diberitakan sebelumnya, ini adalah misi pertama  China untuk mendaratkan sebuah pesawat robotik di sisi jauh Bulan.

Nantinya wahana Chang'e-4 akan mengupayakan pendaratan di kawah Von Kármán, yang terletak di bagian Bulan yang tidak pernah menghadap ke Bumi.

Kawah Von Kármán telah lama menarik perhatian para ahli karena terletak di dalam wilayah terdampak benturan tertua dan terbesar di Bulan - cekungan Kutub Selatan - Aitken. Kawasan itu diduga terbentuk oleh dampak benturan asteroid raksasa miliaran tahun lalu.

Chang'e-4 memasuki orbit elips yang mengelilingi Bulan pada pukul 3.45 dini hari dan berada di perilune (titik di mana pesawat ruang angkasa di orbit berjarak paling dekat dengan bulan) 100 kilometer.

Wahana ini akan menjelajah permukaan Bulan, memeriksa komposisi Bulan, serta berkecimpung di bidang perkebunan yakni menanam benih kentang dan membuat ternak ulat sutera.

Untuk berkomunikasi dengan Bumi, Chang'e-4 akan memantulkan sinyal dari satelit retai yang diluncurkan awal tahun lalu.
