The black beauty of Redi beach. Click more to know more.

.
.
On the border of Maharashtra and Goa, there is a small fishing village named Redi. The village was earlier known for the famous temple of Lord Ganesha and the Maratha fort, which is now in ruins.
Now, the village is slowly becoming famous for its pristine beach and less crowd. The black sand of the beach is something that you don't get to see every day. Plan your visit to the beach in the evening when you will find village kids playing cricket and elders idly strolling on the beach. Try your hand at bowling a ball or two or just sit and gaze the horizon watching the setting sun. If you love, you could also build a small fort of your own in the sand.
Redi beach is around 20 km from Vengurla, 425 km from pune and 560 km from Mumbai. The best way to reach Redi is taking a train to Sawantwadi or Kudal stations and then hiring a private vehicle. There is accommodation and tasty Konkani food available in Redi. .

WEST AFRICA WEEK, DAY 5!
⠀
I couldn’t do a week on West Africa without talking about Ghana.
⠀
I felt Ghana was the country that had its stuff together more than any other country I’ve visited in the region. It had higher levels of development and better infrastructure than any of its neighbors.
⠀
Ghana is also a very unique country with its own quirks. One such thing is naming people based on the day of the week they were born. Former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and current WWE Champion Kofi Kingston were both born in Ghana. The name “Kofi” means “Born on a Friday”. ⠀
This collection of photos will give a brief insight into Ghana and what I saw when I visited.
⠀
#1 Fishermen bringing in their nets in Cape Coast, Ghana
⠀
#2 Within the last 2 weeks I posted some images of fishing boats in Ghana. This is another from that same series, except it is a close up to show you how they used flags on their boats. In this image you can clearly see that all the flags are different and are of many different countries. ⠀
#3 To understand modern Ghana you have to understand the history of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, who the founder of post-colonial Ghana. He was the country’s first president and prime minister. He was removed in a coup in 1966 and became the co-president in the country of Guinea. The monument to him is the largest in the country.
⠀
#4 Sculptures at the Kwame Nkrumah memorial
⠀
#5 One of the quirks of Ghana are the custom coffins which they make. Here you can see several coffins which ave been built. They are a tiger, a ball point pen, a book and a film projector. The coffin is supposed to signify something about the person’s life.
⠀
#6 Another Ghana quirk is the naming of business after Bible verses or religious sayings. We saw many businesses which had names like the God Rules Internet cafe. Other such business names include: ”If God says yes who can say no Enterprises”, “By His Grace Boutique”, and “The Strength of God Computers and Computer Repair”.

Why is the last king of Burma buried 4100 km away from his home, in Maharashtra? Click more to know more.

.
King Thibaw Min ruled the kingdom of Ava in Upper Burma from 1878-1884. This was an era of blatant colonialism. Burma had already fought 2 wars with Britain, resulting in loss of territories and access to the sea. Now the natural resource rich area of Upper Burma was the only roadblock left for Britian from establishing proximity to India and it was ruled by King Thiba, who was revered by the local population.
Britisher decided that it would be appropriate to remove the king quickly and permanently to a location that is far beyond reach and they selected thee Ratnagiri village, which was almost cut off from all the means back then.

Britishers exiled the king and his immediate family to Ratnagiri in 1885 in the Thiba palace, where the king and his family was micromanaged and controlled by Police at all times.
King Thibaw was never allowed to return to his homeland and he breathed last couple of weeks before his 58 birthday the very palace of his exile.

Today, you can see see the residential palace of the king, which is converted into a museum, and his tomb in Ratnagiri. Thus ends the saga of yet another victim of the brutal British raj, much like all other Indians back then.

WEST AFRICA WEEK!
⠀⠀⠀
This week I’m going to be focusing on images which I took in West Africa. Many of these photos are ones which I have never posted to Instagram before for reasons which I’ve outlined over the last few weeks.
⠀⠀⠀
To be honest, I could easily do a West Africa month, because I found the region to be such a photo rich environment. It is a place that I hope to return to in the near future.
⠀⠀⠀
It is also a region which doesn’t get a lot of tourists. Visiting West Africa isn’t even a consideration for the vast majority of travelers, even those who want to visit Africa. They’ll go to Kenya, South Africa, or Morocco, but few people think of visiting Togo, Benin, or Sierra Leone.
⠀⠀⠀
The region has a great deal of potential. The beaches along the Gulf of Guinea are fantastic and the waters there are exceptionally warm due to the east-west nature of the coast.
⠀⠀⠀
The image I wanted to start things off with this week was a shot of the city of Freetown, Sierra Leone which I took from the deck of the ship I was on. ⠀⠀⠀
Freetown is unlike any city I have ever visited. It is the capital of Sierra Leone and has a population of over 1 million people. It is the only city of that size I have been to in the world where you can see the stars at night. Freetown gets so few tourists, that there were probably more people taking photos of us, than we were of them!
⠀⠀⠀
The image most people have of Sierra Leone is mostly that of tragedy. Civil war, blood diamonds, HIV, and ebola tend to be the only things which are ever reported in the news. However, I found it a very enjoyable place with a very bright future ahead of it.

WEST AFRICA WEEK, DAY 4!
⠀
The countries of Gambia and Senegal only make sense if viewed though their colonial history. The British held The Gambia River and everything within a set distance of the banks of the river. Other than its coast at the mouth of the river, the entire country is surrounded by Senegal, which was a French colony. ⠀
Given their geography, the two countries are inexorably intertwined. However, they are very distinct from each other. In The Gambia still speaks English, and in Senegal they still speak French. The Gambia, up until recently, had a long ruling strong man who was actually ousted in an election in 2017. He also had one of the most longest and ridiculous titles of any world leader (His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr. Yahya Abdul-Aziz Awal Jemus Junkung Jammeh Naasiru Deen Babili Mansa)
⠀
Senegal, on the other hand, is one of the few African countries to have never experienced a coup or authoritarian rulers. I found Senegal to be one of the more developed countries in the region, which I’m sure in part extends from that political stability.
⠀
#1 I loved the street scenes in Dakar. Nothing goes to waste, including space on a bus.
⠀
#2 Fishing boats on the shore of Goree Island outside of Dakar
⠀
#3 The Door of No Return, Goree Island. There are several doors of no return in West Africa. These were the doors through which slaves passed to board ships, never to return. Goree Island was of the first world heritage sites created in 1978.
⠀
#4 This statue is called the African Renaissance Monument. It is 49m tall and was built by North Korea. It is the Senegalese Statue of Liberty.
⠀
#5 Guard at the presidential palace in Dakar
⠀
#6 The Gambia river lined with mangrove trees
⠀
#7 A woodcarver in Banjul, Gambia. He was carving masks and statues for tourists in the market
⠀
#8 Dancer in Banjul. She was part of a dance show which was extremely fast-paced. I managed to capture her when she was in mid air!

I consciously step out of self-manipulation and into self-mastery.
My new mantra.
Feel free to use it, write it down, repeat it daily, meditate on it.
I had so many internal conflicts last year and I knew I could only dissolve them by tackling one after the other.
One of my biggest problems was for sure my eating disorder. When we constantly overeat on food to numb our emotions, not only do we harm our gut & hence our entire body but also our psyche.
as above, so below. as within, so without.
This recovery is more powerful to me than you can imagine. The additional weight I was carrying wasn't mine to begin with. The more I let go of this heaviness, the more myself I become. I literally feel so much lighter and more at ease, mentally;
More at peace, spiritually;
More released, physically.
The more internal conflicts I'm letting go of, the more obstacles are dissolving in my external world.
We underestimate the connections of everything. Duality only exists in the human mind. Everything outside of us is actually inside of us and vice versa.
The outside and the inside are not separate. That's exactly why the law of attraction works, from a quantum physicist's perspective. Because everything is one hive energy field.
Our skin is not a border, it is a portal.
Back in the days when I studied medicine, I was fascinated by the topic of energy. And these days, more than ever, I do so much research and study these topics in my free time, purely out of interest and to share my own realizations with the world. Cause this stuff actually helps us in life. More than anything we could learn in school. If you can master your mind, you master your life.
When you know how to align yourself with universal intelligence, anything is possible.✨
這種恢復對我來說比你想像的要強大。剛開始我的體重不是我的。我越是擺脫這種沉重,我就越是變成自己。從字面上看,我感覺輕鬆多了,精神上也更自在了;
在精神上更平靜;
(Continued in the comment)

這種恢復對我來說比你想像的要強大。剛開始我的體重不是我的。我越是擺脫這種沉重,我就越是變成自己。從字面上看,我感覺輕鬆多了,精神上也更自在了;
在精神上更平靜;
(Continued in the comment)
A few of days ago feelings of sadness spread in my mind. I was feeling weak and I thought I had no reason to keep on going. However, as the time went by I talked to some friends, said that I was sorry to some and asked for the assistance of some spiritual guides that are encarnated in this time with me and once again I felt better... the transience continues to flow without control as it is... and, then I stumbled on this picture of 2014. This is one of the few pics I took during my journey through the path of Santiago de Compostela in the north of Spain. This pic is just at the beginning, in a place close to the city of Pamplona. During the path, while I was walking, I went through moments of joy and energy and through moments of sadness and pain. But the greatest moments were the ones I could take a glimpse at myself and just observe, no tears or laughter, just the moment itself. Life is like that, you know... an endless walk on a path that we call existence. I feel okay now and I know that in the near future I will feel bad again and then happy once more giving continuity to the cycle. The realization of that wave of transience in ourselves is something light and heavy, good and bad, funny and sad. I am not saying that I found the answer, far from it, but I feel, in this very moment, life in my body and the ground under my feet. Therefore, I can keep walking, after all, "El Camino es la meta." #lifeineverybreath 🌊

“I promised myself I wouldn’t get drunk before lunch today. What time is it?”
.
That’s a direct quote (from me) in this week’s Inappropriate Traveler podcast with @spudhilton , who was the Travel Editor for the San Francisco Chronicle for 10 years.
.
But I’m the least interesting part of this podcast — Gary Arndt of @everythingeverywhere is being interviewed by Spud about being stopped by immigration in Kiribati, fasting on planes, and shitting his pants, among other inappropriate topics.
.
The morning we recorded this podcast in Boston, I was in rough shape. It had been a few days of catching up with old friends at @travel_con and partying a little too late, so my voice resembles a young Clint Eastwood in this episode. And my laugh has an even deeper rumble than usual.
.
Also, during the recording, Spud was popping bottles of Prosecco to lubricate the conversation, and I partook to soothe my raging hangover, which is probably how I ended up disclosing that I don’t wear underwear and I used to steal my dad’s ‘70s porn magazines when I was a teenager. Oops. #nofilter

If you like crazy travel stories told by incredibly well-traveled people, subscribe to the Inappropriate Traveler wherever you listen to your podcasts.

It's always a treat to have all of my old tracks and sheet music near so as I was going through some of them today, I came across this song. It's called "ELABORATE LIVES" from the musical "AIDA" written by #EltonJohn. Here's only but a snippet - the rest of it would be excruciatingly high for your ears (if it's not already) 🙉🙉🙉 as it is actually the male part of a duet, but I love it and I felt like singing it, so there! 😝 Enjoy x

Vijaydurga is a costal fort in the Sindhudurga district of Maharashtra. This over 800 years old fort's history traces back to 1193 AD. The fort later came under Maratha rule in 1653 AD.
This fort was the stronghold of Maratha navy and was rules by Maratha Admiral Kanhoji Angre, who used Gureilla warfare techniques at sea and destroyed and captured British and Dutch naval ships.
Kanhoji defeated English in 1717, a Portuguese-English alliance in 1720, and Dutch again in 1724. Read more about these battles in our upcoming posts.

WEST AFRICA WEEK, DAY 2!
⠀⠀⠀
The great part about focusing on West Africa this week is that I’ll be able to introduce many people to places they might never have even heard of. ⠀⠀⠀
I’m guessing one such place is the village of Ganvie in the country of Benin.
⠀⠀⠀
In the 16th and 17th Century, the slave trade was at its peak. During this time members of the Tofinu tribe would be hunted by the nearby Fan people and sold to European slave traders. ⠀⠀⠀
To escape this, many of them fled into the shallow waters of Lake Nokoue and took up residence in the low lying islands. Over time they built stilt houses and established a community. After the slave trade ended, the people who had lived there for centuries now, simply remained because it was their home.
⠀⠀⠀
Today Ganvie has a population of almost 20,000 people, almost all of whom still live in stilt houses and travel by small boat. ⠀⠀⠀
It is one of the top/only tourist attractions in Benin and is on the tentative list to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site
⠀⠀⠀
======================
⠀⠀⠀
Would you be interested in traveling with me and learning travel photography? I’m going to be announcing my first trip in several years very soon. I’ll be announcing the trip in my email newsletter. To sign up, just go to the link in my bio. You will also get a free 100 page ebook of some of my favorite travel photos!

When visiting Coba, bike through the jungle. Not only is biking the best way to see the site, but it is also a lot of fun!

Coba is known for its network of stone causeways, called sacbes (white roads). Over 50 of these roads have been discovered at the site, with 16 of them open to the public. I wish I could have explored all 50!

BIRD WEEK, LAST DAY! ⠀⠀⠀
By far the easiest continent for me this week would be Antarctica. There were so many birds to choose from. The vast majority of them were penguins, but there were still a lot of birds. ⠀⠀⠀
The trick was picking out which photo to post. I have a bunch of Antarctica penguin photos I’ve used on Instagram in the past, but the new spirit of not caring about like, I decided to go in a different direction.
⠀⠀⠀
These are gentoo penguins on Half Moon Island in Antarctica (the location says Elephant Island, which is sort of close, but there aren’t a lot of Instagram locations in Antarctica).
⠀⠀⠀
The penguins in this shot aren’t the focus of the shot, but rather are there to show scale and to show the penguins in their environment.
⠀⠀⠀
I took a poll over in my IG stories for what photos to post next week, and the options were West Africa vs The Caribbean. The winner in a 60% to 40% split was West Africa! Expect photos from West Africa starting tomorrow. ⠀⠀⠀
